The dawn of the Fourth Republic?

Michael Lind has a fascinating Salon piece presenting American political history as a series of eras or republics, and asserting that we are in the midst of a transition from the Third Republic, which began with FDR’s New Deal and technological advances of the time, to the Fourth Republic, the outlines of which remain unclear.  A definite must-read for you American history buffs.  I wonder how Lind’s timeline of republics matches up to the generational cycle posited by Strauss and Howe in Generations and The Fourth Turning.  Hmm.  More on those books in a future post.
